Drake Will Star in London-Based Show ‘Top Boy’ After Buying Rights to Series
It looks like Drake‘s newest creative project will combine two of his biggest interests: acting and British culture.
The Daily Mirror reports that Drake has bought rights to popular British crime drama Top Boy and will appear in the show’s upcoming third series. The show (which focuses on street life in London) has had two successful seasons on Channel 4 and will also feature contributions from Skepta in its next installment.
Ashley Walters, who plays Dushane on the show, tells the Daily Mirror that Top Boy‘s producers are creating a role for Drake in addition to his financial involvement: “We met up to start talking about the show and we are working out a role for him. He loves acting, of course he wanted a part. He’s going to be really hands on and is getting stuck into it.”
A premiere date has not yet been announced, but it will reportedly be coming to Netflix in 2018.
Speaking on his involvement in the series, Skepta recently told Zane Lowe, “I’ve been making sure of the creative direction wave. Making greatness with it, man. The whole style of what’s going on in London, the sound, everything about it is real.”
Explaining what it’s been like to work with Drake so far, Walters adds, “He is such a down to earth, nice guy. He’s so famous you would expect him to be this crazy character but he’s actually quite boring, in a good way. I had a meeting with him and I brought all of my kids along. My eldest was chatting away in his ear for ages and he was just cool.”
Details about the next season are limited, but for those unfamiliar with the show, a trailer for the first four episodes is available here—and the first two installments of the series are available on Netflix now.
