Field Medic Captures Lo-Fi Magic on Infectious Love Song “Powerful Love”

It’s an instinct for many of us to play lots of R&B and soul music on Valentine’s Day—but there’s something about the wide-eyed energy of a jangly, lo-fi pop/rock song that’s able to capture the feeling of falling in love in its own exciting way.

That’s exactly what promising San Francisco-based newcomer Field Medic was able to pull off on his charming song “Powerful Love.”

“I wrote this song/EP when I was in love with somebody who was very far away,” he tells us over email. “We corresponded only through letters in the mail for the longest time… I didn’t even have her phone number. The EP was my gift to that love & that love’s gift to me. I put it out on Valentine’s Day because I’ve always loved that holiday for how absurd & cute it is.”

Describing the magic that happened when the song came together, he adds, “I remember recording this song in my living room sitting on a broken blues junior amp doing the guitar & vocals at the same time. It was the first time I ever made a rock song and I was so stoked when I listened back to it because it conveyed my infatuation & excitement perfectly.”
