Freddie Gibbs Blasts Logic for ‘Jocking’ His Cover Art Idea
Shortly after Logic revealed the trailer and cover art for his upcoming album Everybody, Freddie Gibbs went to social media with a bold accusation: He insisted the Maryland rapper copied his ideas.
Earlier this month, Freddie revealed the cover art for his upcoming album You Only Live 2wice, and rolled out a teaser for the project just like Logic did weeks later. It’s clear both covers took inspiration from Renaissance-era paintings. You Only Live 2wice depicts Freddie as a Christ-like figure, rising above the earth. Everybody was painted by Logic’s frequent collaborator Sam Spratt, who drew inspiration from Paolo Veronese’s The Wedding at Cana. There’s no doubt this style of art is a source of inspiration for many album covers, which leads many people to believe this is just a coincidence; however, Logic’s album teaser also bears a striking resemblance to Freddie’s trailer.
Both of the videos are set inside of a museum, in which visitors are admiring the cover art.
It’s also important to note that Logic shared the inspiration for Everybody’s cover more than a month ago. The artist Spratt—who also did the covers for Logic’s Under Pressure, The Incredible True Story, and Bobby Tarantino—went to Twitter to share the back story of the Everybody art, and insisted they came up with the idea in the summer of 2016.
Freddie’s You Only Live 2wice is out now. Logic’s Everybody is scheduled to drop May 5.
