Ice Cube and Tony Hawk Drop Jewels on Achieving Longevity in the Game

In the latest episode from our Complex Conversations series, which took place during our first annual ComplexCon, we shine a light on what it takes to earn success and retain it for years with a panel discussion titled, “Achieving Longevity in the Game,” hosted by Complex’s Chief Content Officer/Complex Editor-in-Chief Noah Callahan-Bever.

Ice Cube and Tony Hawk, both legends in their own right, came together to share their stories of success and what they did to navigate the industry to continue on that path.

Whether it was rapping and filmmaking for Cube, or skateboarding and getting into the video game industry like Hawk, both of the living legends explained how they never imagined being where they are now when they initially started. A part of that is because of the changing industry, but also because they just didn’t know to look that far ahead. After dealing with setbacks, both Cube and Hawk learned they had to take charge of their own careers.

“Where I come from, the worst thing you can do is get into a game you don’t know how to play,” Cube said. “You will get taken advantage of, and you will lose.”
