John Mayer Turns Drake’s “Passionfruit” Into an Acoustic Classic
John Mayer finally did the John Mayer thing to Drake‘s “Passionfruit.” At a Search for Everything World Tour show in Amsterdam Wednesday night, Mayer put an acoustic spin on Drake’s More Life cut. Mayer’s cover is pretty fucking great, having inspired immediate praise across social media:
Mayer cited Drake and Rihanna as points of inspiration behind the nontraditional release strategy of his new Search for Everything album in a recent Rolling Stone interview. “The price of admission is four songs,” Mayer said of his decision to precede the album with two EPS, The Search for Everything: Wave One and Wave Two. “If you don’t like these, don’t get the next four. But if I’ve engendered some kind of trust that you think I’m onto something, get the next four, and come along with me on every single wave.”
Mayer’s Search for Everything World Tour returns to the States in July, with Mayer bringing his multi-set performance to the Isleta Amphitheater in Albuquerque, New Mexico July 18.

Before the North American trek, however, Mayer will follow his international dates with a Dead & Company run starting in Las Vegas later this month. Dead & Company also includes members of Grateful Dead and the Allman Brothers Band.
