Kanye West Debuts Yeezy Season 5 at New York Fashion Week
After skipping out on Sunday’s Grammys broadcast, Kanye West is giving another major event his full attention: New York Fashion Week. West debuted his Yeezy Season 5 collection at Pier 59 Wednesday during the NYFW madness, taking a firm stance on the presence of phones and related communication devices:
Models were projected onto a screen during the presentation, with the show opening to an empty runway. Also notable, as Vogue reported, is the introduction of denim and the arrival of the Calabasas track pants in the vermilion and orange color way. Halima Aden, who made headlines last year as the first Miss Minnesota contestant to compete in a hijab and burkini, was among this season’s Yeezy models:
A version of J. Holiday’s “Bed” soundtracked the proceedings, possibly a demo version of the Back of My Lac’ single from The-Dream.
Kim Kardashian was joined in the front row by Anna Wintour. Kylie Jenner, Tyga, Pusha T, Don C, Virgil Abloh, Teyana Taylor, and ASAP Bari were also in attendance.
Despite a storm of rumors suggesting otherwise, West did not debut new music during the 13-minute Pier 59 show.

Kanye also enlisted Halima Aden to walk in Wednesday’s show. Aden is known as the hijab-wearing model who made headlines for appearing in Minnesota’s 2016 Miss USA pageant. Following the competition, the 19-year-old Somali-American was signed to IMG. The Telegraph reports Yeezy Season 5 marks Aden’s runway debut.
