Kanye West Reschedules Yeezy Season 5 Debut After Criticism From CFDA Boss

After Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) boss Steven Kolb called the timing “disruptive” and “unfair,” Kanye West has rescheduled his Yeezy Season 5 debut. Speaking with Women’s Wear Daily earlier this week, Kolb said West had failed to inform the CFDA of his initial plans, which directly conflicted with those of Marchesa.

“Once again, CFDA was not approached or consulted about the possibility of Kanye West showing on the official New York Fashion Week schedule,” Kolb said Wednesday. “As the scheduler of the week, the CFDA works with more than 300 brands to identify appropriate times for them to show their collections and avoid scheduling conflicts. Not going through the proper channels is disruptive to the whole week and unfair to designers who have secured spots through the formal procedure.”

In a follow-up statement to Hypebeast Thursday, Kolb said West had called him and confirmed he had been “unaware” of any scheduling conflict. “[West] explained that once he realized Marchesa was in the time slot, he immediately looked at alternative options,” Kolb said. The New York Fashion Week show, originally set for Feb. 15 at 5 p.m. at Pier 59, has now been moved to 3 p.m. at the same location.

The anticipation surrounding the event, as expected, is palpable as hell. On Snapchat earlier this week, Kim Kardashian confirmed that she and West were working hard on a long-rumored kids’ line. Kardashian shared several photos and video clips of daughter North West wearing two pieces from the line, revealing the colors and fabric had been hand-selected by the model:

Kardashian did not did not give a release date or any other details on the line, only promising all would be revealed soon. The line’s association (or lack thereof) with Yeezy Season 5 remains a mystery.
