Katy Perry Details Taylor Swift Feud on ‘Carpool Karaoke’: ‘It’s Time for Her to Finish It’
When Katy Perry joined James Corden on the Late Late Show Carpool Karaoke Primetime Special Monday, she ditched the vagueness of her recent Tonight Show interview in favor of specifics. Perry directly addressed her longstanding feud with Taylor Swift, telling Corden how she really felt about such “petty bullshit.”
After Corden said there’s “no denying Taylor beef,” Perry explained the origin of their disagreement. “There’s a situation,” Perry said. “Honestly, it’s really, like, she started it, and it’s time for her to finish it.” Confirming rumor-y reports from TMZ circa 2014, Perry said the Swift issue started with backing dancers.
“It’s about backing dancers,” Perry said. “It’s so crazy. There’s, like, three backing dancers that went on tour with her tour, right? And they asked me before they went on tour if they could go, and I was like, ‘Yeah, of course. I’m not on a record cycle, and get the work ,and she’s great, and all that, but I will be on record cycle probably in about a year, so be to sure to put a 30 day contingency in your contract so you can get out if you wanna join me when I say I’m going back on.'”
When Perry texted the dancers to let them know she would be starting up a tour soon, that’s when the proverbial shit hit the fan. After the dancers talked to those in charge of Swift’s touring, Perry said, they were fired. “I tried to talk to her about it, and she wouldn’t speak to me,” Perry said. “I do the right thing anytime that it feels like a fumble. It was a full shutdown, and then she writes a song about me. And I’m like, okay, cool cool cool, that’s how you wanna deal with it? Karma.”
Ultimately, however, Perry is ready for “that BS” to be done for good. “You do something, there’s going to be a reaction, and trust me daddy, there’s going to be a reaction,” she said. “It’s all about karma, right? I think personally that women together, not divided, and, like, none of this petty bullshit. Women together will heal the world.”
