L.A. Reid Reportedly Accused of Sexual Harassment
Just days after L.A. Reid’s sudden departure as chairman/CEO of Epic Records from Sony Music, a new report by the New York Post has uncovered several instances of sexual harassment from an accuser.
According to The Post, a co-worker has reportedly complained about inappropriate sexual advances at last December’s company holiday party, as well as other instances. This claim is stated in a March 22 letter from the woman to Julie Swidler, Sony Music’s General Counsel, and the details were gathered from a source with knowledge of the letter.
The letter also alleges that Reid made a sexual advance at the female assistant, asking her “to lie down in bed with him and give him a hug while the two were at a hotel while traveling on business.”
Reid made claims about her appearance, suggesting clothes she should wear and described her as looking “fine” at one point.
In regards to Reid’s departure, Sony Music released a statement on Saturday saying, “L.A. Reid will be leaving the company.” However, they did not elaborate any further as to why.
Variety has confirmed that such a letter exists. However, The Post has a source familiar with the thinking of Reid’s camp that says the information is inaccurate.
Reid has helmed Epic Records for nearly six years. He has personal ties with Outkast, Future, Travis Scott, DJ Khaled, and helped reunite A Tribe Called Quest to release their long-awaited album We Got It from Here… Thank You 4 Your Service.
