Lana Del Rey Pens Song About Her “Complex Feelings” After Coachella

Lana Del Rey is currently preparing for the release of her forthcoming album Lust For LifeIn February, she shared the album’s lead single “Love,” and last month she returned to the stage during a special performance at SXSW. This past weekend, most of the music world found themselves dancing for hours on end at Coachella. While various artists took the opportunity to preview new music this weekend, Lana found herself inspired to write something new.

In a recent Instagram post, Lana admitted that her trip home from Coachella motivated her to write a new song. Music festivals offer the perfect opportunity to forget about your troubles for extended moments, but this sort of distraction seems to bring about an internal conflict with the singer. “I’m not gonna lie—I had complex feelings about spending the weekend dancing whilst watching tensions w North Korea mount,” Lana explained in her caption. “I find It’s a tightrope between being vigilantly observant of everything going on in the world and also having enough space and time to appreciate God’s good earth the way it was intended to be appreciated.”

Lana continues her explanation in her caption by saying: “On my way home I found myself compelled to visit an old favorite place of mine at the rim of the world highway where I took a moment to sit down by the sequoia grove and write a little song. I just wanted to share this in hopes that one individual’s hope and prayer for peace might contribute to the possibility of it in the long run.”

In the short video, Lana sits amongst nature singing the new untitled song she recently wrote. The “complex feeling” she describes can be heard within her voice and seen in her eyes. There’s no telling whether or not Lana will feel compelled to finish this song and release it, but it’s just as beautiful as a short piece.
