LeBron James Had Drake’s ‘Lose You’ Track Months Before Release
LeBron James settles for nothing less than dominance in just about every phase of his life. He’s one of the greatest basketball players ever, a successful businessman who helped his friends start a massive agency, and a star who has serious pull with superstars in other fields.
That includes the rap game. When LeBron posted this question on his Twitter page in late January, most people thought it was simply part of his clap-back at critics like Charles Barkley:
As it turns out, it was probably an indication that he got at least one of the songs from More Life early. It’s almost a direct repeat of the chorus from “Lose You,” a song which only made its way to the public when the full album was streamed on the latest episode of OVO Sound Radio. The rest of the world was left to wait for the full release, but James clearly had an exclusive sneak peak at least a month and a half ago.
LeBron’s subtle flex isn’t the first time we’ve been aware of his connections in the music industry. He publicly asked Top Dawg label head Anthony Tiffith for the release of Kendrick Lamar’s untitled, unmastered, and the project was released soon after. At the 2017 All-Star Weekend in New Orleans, he even pulled off a Hot Boys reunion at a party he was hosting. He’s one of the most visible product slingers for the Beats line and a huge hip-hop fan, so it’s not a huge surprise that he’s able to get his hands on upcoming releases ahead of time.
There’s no way of knowing if this was all he had of More Life in advance, but he’s a pretty great secret-keeper either way. I guess we should start paying more attention to his cryptic social media use, because he just might be dropping song titles and hooks on us without anyone knowing.
