Listen to Maggie Rogers’ New Song “On And Off”
“I’ve spent my whole life making quiet music,” Maggie Rogers told BBC Radio 1 as she shared a new single from her debut EP Now That The Light Is Fading. “I’m really, really excited to be a little loud.”
In the same vein as her breakout viral hit “Alaska,” Rogers infuses her folk roots with danceable electronic production and soulful, pop-leaning vocals on “On and Off.” Or as she puts it, “It’s a song you can dance to and a song you can get down to, but for me there’s a lot of heart and soul in it, too.”
One of the first songs she made after “Alaska,” Rogers explains that the song has a heavier meaning than what may appear on initial listen. “There’s a sort of sexual cliché in the song,” she says. “There’s a lyric that says ‘You turn me on’ but if you listen to the rest of the lyrics, that is actually about emotional stability. Being on and off and finding a person that grounds you. Because I think that’s one of the things that’s most important to me in relationships.”
