Little Simz Gets Personal on New Single “Backseat”

Last December, Little Simz released her brilliant sophomore album, Stillness in Wonderlandaccompanied by quite the impressive comic book to make the experience that more intriguing. Today, she finally returns with her first new single of the new year. Her latest release, “Backseat,” details an honest account of her journey thus far. The lyrics feel as if she ripped a page from her journal and recorded it as is, without any filters.

It’s that same transparency that continues to make Little Simz so relatable and appealing. During a short Q&A on Twitter, Simz explained that the main point she wanted listeners to understand from “Backseat” is that “it’s ok not to be ok.” The production provided by Astronote sets up the reflective tone for Simz. By openly sharing these vulnerabilities, Simz comes off looking even stronger than before.

Little Simz shared her latest single with this short message: “I don’t talk or say too much + since the beginning my music has been my way of communicating with the supporters + people who really care about me+ my art. ‘BACKSEAT’ is an update for the people. It’s all in the lyrics. Thank you for listening.”
