Lorde Returns With Her New Single and Video for “Green Light”

Lorde made her official turn to music on Thursday with the release of her new single and its accompanying video for “Green Light.” The visual is directed by Grant Singer, who is known for his video work with the Weeknd. Production on the song comes from Frank Dukes and Jack Antonoff of Bleachers.

On Twitter, the New Zealand singer described the song as “different… it’s complex and funny and sad and joyous and it’ll make you DANCE.” She also said her upcoming album Melodrama will tell “the story of the last 2 wild, fluorescent years of my life.” The project is due out this summer.

“Green Light” marks Lorde’s first single since 2014’s “Yellow Flicker Beat,” which was featured on The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Pt. 1. Before that, Lorde released her debut album, Pure Heroine, in 2013. The project spawned a handful of hits, including the chart-topping single “Royals,” which spent nine weeks at No. 1.

Check out the video for “Green Light” above and purchase the song on iTunes. Lorde also sat down with Zane Lowe for an interview on Melodrama, co-producing the album with Antonoff, and more. You can listen to that below.
