Migos Announce New Deal With Motown/Capitol

Migos’ label Quality Control Music has had a relationship with Capitol Music Group dating back to 2015. Now, the “Bad and Boujee” trio has taken that partnership to the next level by announcing that they will be releasing their new music through QC and Motown/Capitol Records. The deal was announced today by the Migos trio; QC’s CEO Pierre “Pee” Thomas; its COO, Kevin “Coach K” Lee; CMG’s Chairman and CEO Steve Barnett; and Motown Records President Ethiopia Habtemariam (all pictured above).

Habtemariam said in a statement, “We are beyond proud and excited to strengthen our relationship with Coach K and Pierre as they bring their franchise players, Migos, under the umbrella of the Quality Control partnership with Motown/Capitol… Less than two years ago, we began our relationship with QC because we believed in them and were aligned in a mission and purpose to propel our culture to a global market—and we are doing just that.”

Lee commented, “Working with Steve, Ethiopia and their whole team has been incredible. Like all of us at Quality Control, they work hard to push their artists’ visions front and center. It’s a creative and proactive alliance that always keeps the goals of QC in mind.”

Complex reached out to 300 Entertainment, who have had a long-running, if occasionally contentious, business partnership with Migos and were involved in the release of their latest album Culture, for comment, but they declined.

In other Migos news, two-thirds of the group, Offset and Takeoff, signed a global publishing deal with Reservoir Media. The group was brought to the company by hip-hop industry veteran Faith Newman, who is the company’s Senior Vice President of A&R and Catalog Development. Newman famously signed Nas to his first record deal and was an executive producer on his classic debut album Illmatic.
