Nas and DJ Shadow Join Forces on “Systematic”

During the broadcast of Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 Radio show Thursday, producer DJ Shadow surprised listeners with his new collaborative record with Nas.

The song is called “Systematic,” and, according to Pitchfork, will land on the soundtrack of HBO’s Silicon Valley. Though it’s a hard-hitting track full of distortion and dizzying sound effects, Nas’ battle-tested flow keeps it from veering off.

“I wish I was a arms dealer to sale illegal arms in the hood/No backup check, put cash in my palms and we good/Lack of respect, get you to fall where you stood,” he raps. “Mathematics is God’s language, it’s in my blood/Art, music, letters and numbers I’m a vessel, I’m humble.”

In addition to the DJ Shadow collaboration, Nas fans will hear more from the Queens rapper when The Get Down Part II soundtrack drops tonight. Nas, who narrates and executive produces the Netflix series, will appear on the album’s “Angels With Dirty Faces” track.

You can listen to “Systematic” below, and pre-order The Get Down Part II soundtrack on iTunes.

Nas is also expected to drop his 11th studio album this year, his first full-length project since 2011’s Life is Good
