Q-Tip Hints at ‘Any Other Incarnation’ of A Tribe Called Quest: ‘We Don’t Intend on Stopping’

The remaining members of A Tribe Called Quest may not be done making music, according to Q-Tip.

The original member said just as much when he stopped by Annie Mac’s BBC Radio 1 show. “Stay tuned for any other incarnation,” he told Annie Mac. “We don’t intend on stopping because that was Phife’s M.O. was, like, ‘This time we gotta do it and keep going,’ and now he’s left us with the equation of how do we do it. But, we are going to need it and we’re going to continue.”

This is a different sentiment than what was originally expressed to Tribe fans a couple of months ago. “So we collected ourselves and among tribesman, Busta and Cons, we completed what will be, obviously the final A Tribe Called Quest album!” Q-Tip wrote when he first announced the album was coming back in October.

Tip also revealed how making the album helped in dealing with the loss of Phife Dawg. “At the end of the day, it was cathartic,” he explained. “But, he was our friend. We all grew up as friends for many many years, so that compounded with the fact that we made something many people deemed special, and created music, or we were in the creative space. That was just another energy element added to it altogether. So yeah, it was tough at time to go back in [and make another album].”

Meanwhile, fans are still waiting on details for a world tour that Q-Tip had mentioned to Billboard. “This is our last record, and we’ll probably do a world tour…After that, that’s it, for the rest of our lives.” Listen to Q-Tip’s full interview where he discusses the group’s potential music future with Annie Mac below.
