Safaree Claims Nicki Minaj Never Paid Him for Work on ‘The Pinkprint’

Safaree Samuels is sticking by his claims of Nicki Minaj owing him money. In a video shared to social media Tuesday, Safaree keeps the camera close on a plaque commemorating Minaj’s double-platinum milestone for her 2014 album The Pinkprint. Though the location of the plaque isn’t revealed in the clip, Safaree had a very direct message for fans.

“It’s crazy you can come somewhere and see your work, and know that you ain’t get a damn thing for it,” Safaree, who previously dated Minaj, said in the clip. “Crooked ass n****s.”

Just weeks ago, Safaree addressed his financial qualms during a lengthy interview on The Wendy Williams Show:

According to Safaree, he and Minaj engaged in a “collaborative effort” when making music. Compensation, Safaree claimed, is due. “It’s only fair,” he told Williams. “Suppose you went and you worked on the Wendy show for a good eight [or] nine months, and then at the end of the nine months, the show blows up.”

Later in the interview, Safaree doubled down. “Do what’s right,” he said in a message to Nicki. “That’s it. Do what’s right. You know what I did.”

Minaj, meanwhile, just surpassed Aretha Franklin for the most Billboard Hot 100 hits among women artists. On the most recent chart, Minaj debuted there songs (including her Drake and Lil Wayne collab “No Frauds”), enough to surpass Franklin’s Hot 100 total of 73. Franklin’s record had been safe for nearly 40 years. Taylor Swift, somehow, currently boasts the third-most Hot 100 entries in the category with 70 to her name.
