Sneaker Shopping With Chris Rock
Chris Rock has been making everyone laugh with his brand of cultural commentary for four decades now, and he’s getting ready to hit the road for his “Total Blackout Tour.” The 52-year-old comedian is also the most recent guest on Complex’s Sneaker Shopping with Joe La Puma, and the two of them met at Stadium Goods in New York City to talk about all the sneaker-related anecdotes that Rock has collected over the years.
Early on in his career, Rock was a cast member on SNL, and he was around when Michael Jordan hosted the show in 1991. He remembers that MJ was the biggest guest that they ever had on the show and says that even his fellow castmates were starstruck by the Greatest Basketball Player Ever. There’s a huge debate on whether Kanye West’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is Ye’s best album (or a classic), but Rock says it’s the greatest hip-hop album all of time. He’s not just a fan of Kanye’s music, but he says that you’re doing it wrong if you don’t have a pair of Yeezy Boosts, too. Later in the episode, Rock recalls his role as Lil’ Penny and how it saved his career. In the end, he spends nearly $2,400 on Yeezys and NMDs.
