Thundercat Returns With “Show You the Way,” Announces New Album
Thundercat has announced the follow-up to his 2015 mini-album The Beyond / Where the giants Roam, and it’s looking to be his biggest release yet. To coincide with the announcement of the new album, which is entitled Drunk, Thundercat has shared the first single. Featuring Kenny Loggins and Michael McDonald, “Show You The Way” is a smooth reintroduction to Thundercat’s world.
Speaking with Red Bull Music Academy Daily, Thundercat explained the title of the album. “I’ve always tried to hold true to what Erykah Badu and Flying Lotus told me: It has to come from an honest place,” he explained. “I feel like it’s a place that I’ve been in different ways, seen different angles of and it’ s been a bit inspirational, the drinking. It has its ups and downs and everything, but I felt like it showed the human side of what goes on behind things, something that I see with all of my friends… I felt like it was kind of interweaved in the music culture. And it’ s something that’ s never talked about.”
Featuring appearances from Flying Lotus, Kendrick Lamar, Kamasi Washington, Pharrell, and Wiz Khalifa, the album runs at 23 tracks long. Due February 24 via Flying Lotus’ Brainfeeder label, the album features the previously released “Bus In These Streets” and “Them Changes.” Listen to “Show You The Way” below, and check out the tracklist for Drunk below that.
