Troy Ave Calls His Career the ‘Second Coming’ of 2Pac: ‘It’s NewPac’
Troy Ave joined Angela Yee, DJ Envy, and Charlamagne tha God for a lengthy Breakfast Club interview Wednesday. The 90-minute chat covered the Irving Plaza incident, the Christmas shooting, and Ave’s opinion that his success is equatable to the “second coming” of the late 2Pac.
“I go in the motherfucking clubs and n****s going crazy,” Ave told Charlamagne and the Breakfast Club team. “In the clubs, in the streets where they’re playing all the fucking trap music and all type of shit, n****s go crazy, ‘Oh shit, that’s Troy Ave.’ N****, it’s the second coming of Tupac. It’s NewPac. I go do shows, everything’s different. The handshakes is different. Women suck a n****’s dick different.”
When Charlamagne asked Ave how “NewPac” could “avoid going out like Tupac,” Ave pointed to the importance of taking precautions. “That’s a good question,” he said. “I don’t know. Just take precaution. I can’t sit up here and lie and tell you all kinds of shit . . . God willing, I don’t go out like Pac.” The plan, Ave added, is to “die old in a nice, big, California king size bed.”
Reaction to Ave’s “NewPac” comments, thus far, has been mixed:
Ave also talked with the Breakfast Club team about underestimating his own celebrity status, a factor he says contributed to last December’s shooting in Brooklyn. Catch the full 90-minute discussion at the top.
