Watch Chance the Rapper’s Acceptance Speech for Best Rap Album at the Grammys
Chance the Rapper just took home the Grammy for Best Rap Album, and gave an impassioned speech that shouted out DJ Drama, SoundCloud, and his independent status in hip-hop.
Earlier in the evening, Chance won Best New Artist. During that speech, he dedicated the victory to God and said, “I know people think that independence means you do it by yourself. But independence means freedom.”
In his speech for winning Best Rap Performance (which wasn’t televised), he thanked FakeShoreDrive’s Andrew Barber, his family, Jimmy Jam, and many more.
His brother, Taylor Bennett, was super excited to see him win his third Grammy.
And of course, hip-hop couldn’t resist giving him props.
Issa Rae, the writer and actress behind Insecure, had this to say about Chance. We couldn’t have agreed more.
