Watch The Chainsmokers Crash a Chicago High School’s Prom

Students at Chicago’s Huntley High School got to temporarily escape the stereotypical prom monotony of chaperones and bans on dancing deemed inappropriate for school thanks to a visit on Saturday from The Chainsmokers. The EDM duo, comprised of Andrew Taggart and Alex Pall, dropped in on Huntley as part of a visit that had been planned weeks in advance.

Taggart and Pall were previously scheduled to be in Chicago to play at the AllState Arena as part of their eponymous tour. The 10-minute visit to Huntley came to fruition after one of the school’s students reached out to The Chainsmokers’ management.

“About two weeks ago I got this random phone call that I happened to answer, and on the other end this person said, ‘This is going to be the strangest call you’ve ever received, but one of your students actually sent an email to the manager of the band’,” Huntley Principal Scott Rowe told the Daily Herald.

Two weeks later, the plan was finalized. Thanks to an anonymous high school Chainsmokers fan who has yet to be identified, prom attendees were treated to a free show.

The surprise performance was executed as the single “Closer” began playing only for The Chainsmokers to emerge from backstage and perform a live version of the track.

“About three words in somebody screamed, ‘That’s The Chainsmokers!’ and they just bum-rushed the stage,” Rowe added. “It says a lot about those guys and how cool they are to their fans.”

High school students take note. Email the right person, and a duo behind several charting Billboard hits may visit your prom.
