Yasiin Bey Says He Has Three Albums on the Way
Shortly after he was permitted to leave South Africa, Yasiin Bey announced he and Ferrari Sheppard would drop a collaborative album under the Dec 99th moniker. Many people believed the self-titled project would be Bey’s last release before his impending retirement; however, it turns out the Brooklyn artist has more music on the way.
As pointed out by OkayPlayer, the Brooklyn artist revealed he will release two additional albums, including a joint project with famed producer Mannie Fresh.
“I will be premiering my new album, Negus In Natural Person, and me and Mannie Fresh’s project, which is called As Promised, at The Apollo on Dec. 21,” he said during an interview on WNL Radio.
He then followed up the news with several song premieres, giving listeners a taste of what’s to come.
Bey, formerly known as Mos Def, did not give any details regarding the albums’ release dates, but Sheppard did confirm to OkayPlayer that both projects were complete. The announcement comes more than four years after Bey and Mannie Fresh began working on their joint album called OMFGODBKNOLA, which did result in a few singles but was ultimately never released. It appears Bey is now tying up his loose ends before he steps away from music indefinitely.
In addition to his Dec. 22 show at the Apollo, Bey will also perform from Dec. 31 to Jan. 2, 2017 at Washington D.C.’s John F. Kennedy Center; this three-day stop is expected to be his final U.S. performances.
