BREAKING: Jaheim Just Got Arrested And Its All Bad!
Singer Jaheim was arrested after more than 12 dogs were discovered living in poor conditions at his New Jersey residence. One of the dogs was euthanized as a result. Officials have not confirmed that.
The 44-year-old artist, born Jaheim Hoagland, has been charged with third-degree animal cruelty and failure to provide necessary care to an animal, the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office said in a news release.
According to prosecutors, six dogs were found in separate animal crates at the Hillsborough Township Police Department’s property’s driveway by Hillsborough Township Police Department officers on Monday.
Officials stated in the release that the animals had been placed inside crates “partially stuffed with several inches water and dog feces,” while one dog was unresponsive.
Hoagland was already arrested for an unrelated matter. Police found nine additional dogs inside the house in “varying stages” of emaciation without access to food or water.
Authorities recovered 12 mixed-breed pitbull terriers, 2 American Staffordshire terriers, and 1 mixed-breed boxer.
Officials said that the dog, a mixed-breed pitbull terrier, was unresponsive in his crate and had to be killed. Two other animals were taken to a vet clinic for emergency treatment because of their poor health.
Since then, all 14 of the surviving dogs were taken to a local shelter for further examination. The investigation continues.
On Thursday, the prosecution stated that Hoagland had been booked into Somerset County Jail pending a court hearing.
It is unclear if Hoagland has retained an attorney to speak for him. PEOPLE did not receive a response from Hoagland to our request for comment.
