The entrepreneur’s creative juices are flowing in the wake of the drug lord’s death.After struggling to pen the Paid In Full sequel, Dame Dash’s writer block has come to an end. According to Page Six, the record executive gained clarity for the direction of the film after learning about the death of Harlem drug lord Alpo Martinez.
“Paid in Full is a reflection of everything I’ve learned, and I am really going to see it through now that there’s an ending,” Dash said. “So this is going to dramatically change based on what happened Sunday (Oct. 31). “I was stuck on how to really approach it, and this is actually giving me more clarity.”
As previously reported by REVOLT, Martinez passed away after he was struck in a drive-by shooting.Paid In Full captures the rise and fall of the drug empire he built alongside fellow Harlem drug dealers Azie “AZ” Faison and Rich Porter. The movie has been deemed a cult classic and a go-to African American film, hence the reason Dash feels the need to exceed expectations with the sequel.Paid in Full was a classic. To even touch it again, I got to come better,” he told Page Six. “So the story got to be straight. Everybody’s thinking it’s got to be tight, and based on the fact that I have creative control, I can do things the right way. Shit’s going to be incredible.”Dash’s update on the status of Paid in Full 2 comes more than a year after Cam’ron, whose character in the film portrays Martinez, confirmed that conversations about the sequel were being held.
“I don’t wanna say 100 percent yes, but we’re definitely in the talks about doing something similar to Paid in Full 1,” he said at the time. “It’s definitely a conversation going on right now about that, 100 percent. This is the first time I’m giving you a possibility of ‘Yes.’”
