Dr Boyce Watkins stopped by The Hip Hop Uncensored Podcast in order to discuss 50 Cent’s criticism of the Emmy Awards.
the Emmys were broadcast on Sunday night. 50 cent voiced disapproval of the ceremony in which no person of color was awarded acting awards, despite receiving record nominations.
People noted that all 12 categories for supporting and lead actor and actress were won by white actors in comedy, drama and limited series. Notable nominees like Mj Rodriguez (Pose) and Bowen Yang (Saturday Night Live) were left out of their respective categories. Ewan McGregor won Lin-Manuel Miranda, Leslie Odom Jr. and Hamilton for the role of Halston.
49 people of color were nominated in the acting and reality categories. This is a record number. Michaela Coel won Best Writing for an Anthology Series or Movie, but she did not win in the categories of acting, directing or Best Limited or Anthology Series.
He posted a screenshot from Variety’s article titled “No Emmys nominees of color win at Emmys” –Fif was one of those who made it clear that he wasn’t happy with this year’s results. 50 Cent shared the post on Instagram and Twitter, saying that Emmy’s still offers a separate bathroom for people of color. “I’m going to put the NAACP Awards on the air simultaneously and f*ck up their numbers. They should not be afraid of me, I’m different.” #emmys
