Malcolm-Jamal Warner was reportedly swimming with his 8-year-old daughter when he accidentally drowned during their Costa Rica vacation.
Surfers jumped into action to save the “Cosby Show” actor and his daughter on Monday after they noticed the pair struggling against the current, per ABC News.
One surfer managed to save Warner’s daughter by bringing her back to safety on his surfboard. Warner was pulled back to shore by a volunteer lifeguard and another surfer before he was given 45 minutes of CPR. However, their efforts would prove to be too late. As we previously reported, Warner was pronounced dead at the scene by authorities. He was 54.
His official cause of death was listed as asphyxiation by “submersion,” according to police.
The father and daughter were swimming near Cocles, a beach in Limon, Costa Rica, when they got caught up in a rip current.
