Big Boi Clarifies What Gucci Mane Meant by Getting on a New Outkast Song
In Mid-September, Gucci Mane took to Snapchat to announce an upcoming collaboration with Outkast. Now, Big Boi says the song with Guwop will appear on the former’s new solo album, slated to drop in early 2017.
“I do have Gucci on this album,” Big Boi tells Creative Loafing Tampa Bay. “[Gucci Mane] was just excited because the song was jammin’ like a motherfucker.”
Big Boi’s clarification makes sense. Nobody really knew what Gucci was talking about when he announced the Outkast collaboration, because an Outkast reunion hasn’t been talked about since their 2014 reunion tour.
Unfortunately for diehard Outkast fans, André 3000 will likely be absent from the Big Boi and Gucci record. However, they can look forward to Big Boi’s forthcoming body of work. Daddy Fat Sax tells Creative Loafing that the still-untitled album is about 80 percent done, and that he’ll likely finish by the end of January.
Big Boi says he’s taking his time to make sure the music is of top-notch quality. “You can’t preach. You have to entertain and educate at the same time,” the ATLien says. “Keep that shit jammin,’ you know – I don’t give a damn what you’re saying, if it don’t sound good over the music, then they ain’t gonna hear that shit at all.”
Back in August, Big Boi said that he plans on dropping a joint project with Killer Mike once the Outkast rapper is finished with his solo LP. “Me and Killer Mike, we’re gonna put out a little EP after I put out my next solo record or something like that,” Big Boi said. “We’ve been entertaining the idea for a long time and finally got enough songs to where we just said the other night that we’re gonna do it.”
