Big Sean’s ‘I Decided.’ Is a Concept Album About Rebirth
On Thursday (Dec. 22), Big Sean dropped a new song, “Moves,” and shared the cover for his upcoming album, I Decided. Now, the G.O.O.D. Music MC gives details on the album concept.
Sean Don tells Entertainment Weekly that the forthcoming project is inspired by the concept of rebirth.
“That’s not something that people expect from a Big Sean project,” the Detroit native says. “So I’m happy we are delivering something unexpected. I’m excited to push the culture and push my artistry to the limit.”
The 27-year-old rapper says his forthcoming body of work is also inspired by old-school soul and R&B artists.
“I was just at this Motown exhibit with Berry Gordy [and] my mom,” Big Sean says. “He was talking about Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder and the Temptations and how one of the things they did was inspire people. They inspired people to have a good time, to do better – to be a better version of themselves. That really stuck with me. That’s what I want to do, too.”
Although Sean is aiming for a more meaningful project with his fourth studio album, that doesn’t mean he won’t include some fun, turn-up tracks.
“You don’t want to overdo it. I’m not trying to sit here and preach to people,” he explains. “You can get [a message] across with a song like ‘Bounce Back.’ We’ve all bounced back from something before, so that fits my story perfect, but you never would have known that from hearing it by itself.”
In other Big Sean-related news, the Finally Famous rapper recently dropped the official version of “Living Single” featuring Chance The Rapper and Jeremih. He also hopped on Yo Gotti’s “Castro,” which also features Kanye West, Quavo and 2 Chainz.
