Recently, Marvel has been infusing its characters with hip-hop through new covers that offer renditions to some of the most iconic hip-hop album covers. The new comic tells a story that borrows from L.A. gang culture, B-Boy-ism and Egyptology. Main character Zulu-X is on a mission to defend the City of Angels from an ancient alien god sent to earth to turn it’s inhabitants into zombies.

The comic was illustrated by Benjamin Jackendoff and Damion Scott. It was written by Will.i.am who expressed his excitement to make start the new venture of the Black Eyed Peas. “The Black Eyed Peas and I have begun a new journey. We’ve been working on this original story for years and partnering with Marvel to bring this book to life is more than a dream come true,” said the L.A. born star.

Marvel editor, Axel Alonso, followed up with Will.i.am’s excitement stating, “Few artists have done more to embed Hip-Hop in popular culture than Will.i.am and the Black Eyed Peas. So we are thrilled to present this deeply personal story that speaks directly to Hip-Hop aficionados, comic book fans and the intersection of those communities.”

We can expect the collaborative effort to drop in July of this year.
