Colin Kaepernick Makes Charitable Contributeion To Meals On Wheels

Colin Kaepernick became everyone’s top athlete last year when he revived a groundbreaking movement connecting sports and advocacy with the simple gesture of a bended knee. Although he’s now a free agent, he continues to win over the hearts of Americans who believe in true and absolute liberty for all and hasn’t stopped his monetary contributions to organizations whose purposes serve just that. On Tuesday (March 22), TIME reported the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback donated $50,000 to Meals On Wheels.

The national organization administers nutritious meals to elderly citizens who otherwise have no access. The organization is currently in hot water as Donald Trump’s “skinny budget” suggests a cut in federal funding that may dramatically affect their services. Kaepernick’s contribution arrives at the perfect time, especially since every donation or act of advocacy he conducts rarely goes unnoticed. His small step could encourage others to support the program.

The free agent has recently dedicated his social media voice to the #LoveArmyForSomalia fundraising initiative. A few people gathered on social media, including actor Ben Stiller, to raise money through a GoFundMe account to fly 60 tons of food to the country to feed starving people, with the help of Turkish Airlines.

The purveyor of walls hasn’t spoken out on either acts of global civility, but managed to insert himself into Kaepernick’s professional life. Recently, Trump spoke to a Kentucky rally where he announced that the reason the QB wasn’t signed was because teams are afraid of getting a “nasty tweet” from the president. The outright declaration and pride he has in his cyberbullying abilities aren’t usually the qualities American people cheer about, but the roaring Kentucky crowd managed to find some solace in it.
