Daya Hits Her Boiling Point In ‘OITNB’ Season 5 (Teaser)

Orange is the New Black doesn’t return until June 9, but a first look at season five released on Tuesday (April 11) shows what happens moments after Daya was last seen pointing CO Humphrey’s gun back at him.

In the wake of Poussey’s death at the hands of an inexperienced corrections officer, tensions between inmates and authorities at Litchfield are higher than ever, and Dascha Polanco doesn’t think her character is beyond pulling the trigger. “The boiling point has tipped over,” she told The Hollywood Reporter last year. “At this point, Daya is thinking, ‘F— everyone. I’m going for it.’”

“I think Daya’s definitely experiencing some postpartum depression. She might pull back and think about being a mother and not wanting to miss the opportunity of being with her child. But a woman going through postpartum — at that point, they’re very fragile and very sensitive,” the VIBE Viva digital cover star later explained.

The Huffington Post reports the new season not only comes with a format change that will happen in real time within a span of three days, but is also guaranteed to “[leave] the inmates’ lives forever changed as they are emboldened to fight for redemption, resolution and the respect they deserve,” per Netflix.
