Donald Trump Skips Intelligence Briefings Because He’s Smart

President-elect Donald Trump promises to continue his unorthodox political approach that got him elected, when he assumes the role as leader of the free world in January. However, during a Sunday (Dec.11) sit-down with “Fox News Today,” Trump said he skips out on daily intelligence briefings because he’s just so intelligent.

“You know, I’m, like, a smart person,” Trump, 70, said. “I don’t have to be told the same thing in the same words every single day for the next eight years. Could be eight years — but eight years. I don’t need that. But I do say, ‘If something should change, let us know.’”

While Trump chooses not to be briefed about the state of the country, Vice President Mike Pence is briefed several times a week. In the past, president-elects have all welcomed the daily briefings, CNBC reports.

Former Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel said Trump can do what he pleases in regards to the intelligence briefings, but thinks he should be made abreast about the happenings of the nation.

“That’s obviously up to President-elect Trump. But I think he would be well served if he would take those briefings because there’s never enough time to know as much as you need to know any of these jobs,” Hagel said.
