Fans Name the Best Hip-Hop Album of 2016
XXL is currently in the midst of recapping all the best works of 2016. So far, we’ve looked back at everything from the best verses of the year to the top music videos. But the great thing about this time of year is that everyone gets to share their opinion. With that in mind, XXL reached out to our readers on Twitter to get their picks for the best album of 2016.
It came as no shock to see that plenty of readers loved high profile albums like J. Cole’s 4 Your Eyez Only, Drake’s Views, Travis Scott’s Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight and Kanye West’s The Life of Pablo. 2016 XXL Freshman class members like 21 Savage and Lil Yachty also got some recognition from our readers.
Some listeners dug a little deeper for their top album picks. Montana of 300’s Fire in the Church, Royce Da 5’9’s Layers, Joey Purp’s iiiDrops and the Flatbush Zombies’ 3001: A Laced Odyssey are some of the LPs our readers enjoyed that didn’t get the nonstop coverage of this year’s bigger releases.
XXL will be unveiling our own picks for the best albums of 2016 in the near future, so keep an eye out for our list. We’ll also continuing to roll out our selections for the rest of our year-end lists, which should provide plenty of more debate in the coming weeks. But until then, check out what your fellow readers had to say when it comes to the top album of the year.
