Fresh off joining the Roc Nation management team, Fat Joe is making it rain, dropping the video for “Money Showers” along with partner-in-crime Remy Ma and Ty Dolla $ign, earlier this week. The track was first released in mid-November and will be featured on Joe and Remy’s Plata o Plomo album, slated for a Feb. 17 drop.
The “Money Showers” video is directed by Eif Riveria and inspired by the 1998 film The Players Club, Joe and Remy hitting the strip club in the first act, with Remy entertaining some men in uniform in the second. Ty Dolla $ign handles the hook, the Cool & Dre produced beat deploying a Ralph Tresvant sample. Comedian A.J. Johnson, who appeared in the original film, and Michael Blackson make cameos in the video as well.
“‘Money Showers’ to me means being bestowed with an unlimited amount of everything; an excess of everything whether materialistic, emotional, sexual — like total ecstasy,” Remy said of the track. “Working with Ty is cool. This the second song I’ve been on with him, the first being Dej Loaf’s ‘Try Me’ remix. He’s so smooth.”
Less than a week before releasing their joint album, Remy and Joe will be at the 59th annual Grammy Awards, their song “All the Way Up” nominated for Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song. Speaking with XXL, Remy said she was awakened by the news of the nominations after a late night filming the “Money Showers” video. “We did the BET Awards, we won that, the Soul Train [Awards], and we won that. But you know, the AMAs, they didn’t nominate us,” Remy said. “So to actually get nominated by the Grammys, which is like, you know, it’s like the Oscars of music, is just like very humbling, and just, I can’t explain how I feel now…I’m smiling for no reason at all.”
