Frank Ocean Blasts The Grammys In Angry
You won’t be seeing Frank Ocean at the 2017 Grammy Awards, but that didn’t stop the singer from speaking on the subject. Following Grammy producer and writer Ken Ehrlich and David Wild’s Rolling Stone interview on Feb. 11 in which they criticized Frank’s 2013 performance of his 2013 single “Forest Gump,” the Blonde artist has hit back in an angry Tumblr post, blasting the entire awards show.
The post, which was addressed to Ehrlich and Wild, points out the problems with the awards show and the many snubs that have occurred throughout the years. “As much as I hate to make you guys famous or even respond to you directly, we all die one day and you’re old so f**k it,” the note reads. “Yea yea my 2013 performance at the Grammys was absolute s**t. Technical difficulties, blah blah. Thanks for the reminder. Very much appreciated. F**k that performance though.”

The singer also revealed that he initially wanted to appear at this year’s show to honor the late Prince, but later decided against it. “I actually wanted to participate in honoring Prince on the show, but then I figured my best tribute to that man’s legacy would be to continue to be myself out here and to be successful,” he continued. Winning a TV award doesn’t christen me successful.”
After detailing what he defines as successful, Frank took Ken and David’s own words and dubbed the Grammys “faulty.” “I’ve actually been tuning into CBS around this time of year for a while to see who gets the top honor and you know what’s really not ‘great TV’ guys,” he asked. “1989 getting album of the year over To Pimp A Butterfly. Hands down one of the most ‘faulty’ TV moments I’ve seen.” The singer is referring to Taylor Swifts 2016 album, which won in the Album of the Year category over Kendrick Lamar’s. Arguably, that was one of the biggest snubs of the night, other than Macklemore beating out Kendrick for Best Rap Album award.

Finally, Frank suggested that the show was guilty of a “cultural bias,” but offered to help solve the issue. “Believe the people. Believe the ones who’d rather watch select performances from your program on YouTube the day after because your show puts them to sleep,” he concluded his post. “If you’re up for a discussion about the cultural bias and general nerve damage the show you produce suffers from then I’m all for it. Have a good night.”
As previously reported, Frank’s album did not qualify for a Grammy this year due to its release being after the submission deadline. The singer is a two-time Grammy winner, which he won for his 2013 album Channel Orange. Check out Frank Ocean’s full Tumblr post here.
