Frank Ocean Debuts New Song “Chanel” On Beats 1 Radio Show
The arduous task of waiting for new melodies from Frank Ocean wasn’t as taxing as years prior when fans patiently yearned for his Channel Orange follow-up, Blonde. During his “blonded RADIO” program on Beats 1 (Mar. 10), the New Orleans native decided to send listeners into the weekend with a sobering soundscape titled, “Chanel.”

“My guy pretty like a girl/ And he got fight stories to tell/ I see both sides like Chanel/ See on both sides like Chanel,” Ocean cooly croons for the track’s opener. The candid lyrics of intimacy, sexuality and an unabashed showcase of wealth go hand-in-hand on the nearly four-minute song.
“Chanel” arrives seven months after the 29-year-old Grammy Award-winner dropped Blonde. The project was hailed as Ocean’s first No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart. At the point of release, Blonde sold nearly 300,000 units.

With the birth of the aforementioned album, Ocean penned a letter describing his new outlook on his life and career.
“I wrote a story in the middle—It’s called ‘Godspeed.’ It’s basically a reimagined part of my boyhood. Boys do cry, but I don’t think I shed a tear for a good chunk of my teenage years,” he wrote. “It’s surprisingly my favorite part of life so far. Surprising, to me, because the current phase is what I was asking the cosmos for when I was a kid. Maybe that part had its rough stretches too, but in my rearview mirror it’s getting small enough to convince myself it was all good. And really though…It’s still all good.”
