Girl Fights Off Kidnapper Who Put A Plastic Bag Over Her Head

A mother is terrified after learning an unknown man attempted to kidnap her 8-year-old daughter while she was playing outside of her grandmother’s home in Chicago’s South Austin neighborhood. Cheneice Kidd, the child’s mother, told ABC7 news she assumed the area was safe because of all the families that live there, but is now not only worried for her child but all children.

“It is strange. It is scary. It is very sickening, and this is a family block,” Kidd said.

Chicago police are now looking for the would-be kidnapper whose plans were foiled because the 8-year-old fought back. According to law enforcement, the girl was riding her bike in the neighborhood at about 3:30 p.m. Sunday (April 23) when a man approached her and put a plastic bag over her head. She then kicked the attacker and ran inside her grandmother’s house for help. Kidd said she could immediately tell something was wrong just by looking at her daughter.

“You could see in her face something was wrong. She is not a crybaby, so she wasn’t crying. She was just confused as of the incident that took place,” Kidd said.

Kidd said she then got in the car to circle the block and find the man her daughter described to her. Afterwards she called 911 to notify them, but was relived her daughter fought back. “I am extremely proud that I raised a fighter. She is not going to give up and let nobody take her. She knows she has family that loves her and wants her home.”
