J. Cole’s music is an acquired taste for some. For those people that are used to the lit club music that thrives on today’s radio, the N.C. MC might even come off as a bit of a bore.
Recently, Hampton Inn attempted to gain some cool points via a post on Twitter by trying to exploit the fact that there is a section of the population that doesn’t care for Cole’s perceived lack of energy on his new LP.
The shade came from the Twitter account of the Hampton Inn in Sandy, Ut. Posting a picture of one of their rooms, the operator of the account captioned the pic, “Is the new J Cole album putting you to sleep early? Stop on by and stay the night with us at the Hampton Inn Sandy! ☺?.”
Good one. The haters gon’ hate, but the fact is, Cole’s new album is projected to push between 400,000 and 500,000 copies in its first week out.
4 Your Eyez Only is void of any features, like his previous album 2014 Forest Hills Drive. The new 10-song project contains production from Boi-1da, Frank Dukes, Cardiak, Vinylz, Childish Major, Elite, Ron Gilmore and others. Check out the full list of production credits here.
Cole’s music has never been for the turn up crowd, and he has labeled the offering as his most honest. “First of all, you get to this height or this level of your career, in terms of platform, who’s to say the next one, the next one might go down, it could go up,” he says in the documentary Eyez, which came out a week before the album dropped. “You’re never guaranteed to be this high again. And while I’m here, let me use this opportunity to say the realest shit I’ve ever said.”
