Here Are the Best Gifs From Jay Z’s ‘Big Pimpin” Video Featuring UGK
Today (April 11), marks the 17th anniversary of Jay Z‘s classic hip-hop banger “Big Pimpin’” featuring UGK. The Timbaland-produced song, which served as the lead single off Jigga’s fourth studio album, Vol. 3… Life and Times of S. Carter, was the most successful track to come off the project—”Big Pimpin’” peaked at No. 18 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 60 overall for the year-end charts back in 2000.
The flute-laced beat combined with Jay, Bun B and Pimp C’s slick rhymes made for a summer banger to carry fans through the early aughts. Timbo sampled the song “Khosara Khosara,” composed by Egyptian producer Baligh Hamdi, to craft the “Big Pimpin’” beat, a move that actually landed Jay in court a few years later—but that’s another story for another time.
If the song itself doesn’t stand out to Jay Z fans, the music video certainly should. The video was shot by Hype Williams and is arguably one of the most iconic rap videos shot on a beach. Back when fans really cared about videos, these rappers did it big. The visual was shot in Trinidad and Tobago during the island nation’s annual Carnival celebrations so it obviously showcased the country’s beautiful, half-naked women, the carefree parade and more. If only you could stay in this party forever.
