The history of rap is riddled with instances of greatness going unrecognized, but every once in a while, an MC is so talented that the perceived wall between the perceptions of ardent hip-hop fans and mainstream rap listeners ceases to exist. By winning the trophies for Best New Artist and Rap Album of the Year at the 2017 Grammys, Chance The Rapper proved that he was one of those rare MCs.

When Chano took home the award for Best Rap Album, it legitimately felt like everyone won. The perpetually joyful rapper who seamlessly merged gospel and hip-hop with his Grammy Award-winning project Coloring Book is positivity incarnate. This is a guy who’s so selfless that he once bought back 2,000 tickets to one of his shows so that he could sell them to fans at a reasonable price. Here’s a person who’s on his way to being as successful as the top names in the rap game but is still as genuinely starstruck as anyone when he’s approached by Beyoncé.

Chance is the rap game’s everyman. He’s stunningly talented, but he approaches his music with the passion and sincerity of someone who’s thankful he gets to do what he loves every single day, as if he knows full-well he’s living the dream.

With that in mind, it’s no surprise that tenants of the rap community have come forth to congratulate the Acid Rap MC. See what Drake, Kendrick Lamar and more had to say about Chance’s spectacularly successful night at the Grammys in our list below.
