Hollywood Mourns ‘RoboCop’ Star Miguel Ferrer
Miguel Ferrer, most notably know for his roles in 1987’s RoboCob and NCIS: Los Angeles, lost his life to throat cancer late last week (Jan. 19).
Ferrer, who was born to Puerto Rican actor and film director José Ferrer (the first Latino to win an Academy Award) and singer Rosemary Clooney, reportedly died peacefully at home, in the company of his wife Lori Weintraub, sons Lukas and Rafi. He was 61.
George Clooney, fellow actor and cousin of Ferrer, released a statement via The Hollywood Reporter following news of his passing. “Today history will mark giant changes in our world, and lost to most will be that on the same day Miguel Ferrer lost his battle to throat cancer. But not lost to his family. Miguel made the world brighter and funnier and his passing is felt so deeply in our family that events of the day, (monumental events), pale in comparison. We love you Miguel. We always will,” Clooney said.
Ferrer starred as Owen Granger in NCIS: Los Angeles up until his departure.
“Today, NCIS: Los Angeles lost a beloved family member,” showrunner R. Scott Gemmill said in a statement. “Miguel was a man of tremendous talent who had a powerful dramatic presence on screen, a wicked sense of humor, and a huge heart. Our thoughts go out to his wife Lori, his sons, and his entire family. He will be greatly missed.”
Other movie stars and notables took to Twitter to, both, mourn and celebrate one of film and TV’s most beloved tough guys (see below). Our sincerest condolences to the family. May Ferrer rest in peace.
