Is Rick Ross About to Diss Birdman?
Rick Ross is about to drop his ninth studio album Rather You Than Me and in true industry fashion, The Bawse is on a heavy press rollout for his anticipated LP. Ricky Rozay sat down with Billboard recently to break down a few key tracks on the album, one of which is called “Idols Become Rivals.” Some believe this track is directly aimed at Cash Money boss Birdman.
“I’ve got a record titled ‘Idols Become Rivals’ and it’s basically me writing a letter to someone in the game that I looked up to damn near the most and I hate what things have come to,” explained Ross during the conversation. “I’m just really ready for these records to get into the streets so that people can hear the excitement in my voice and the music.”
It’s no secret that Ross and Birdman have had a rocky past. When the beef between Drake and Meek Mill popped off in 2015, Ross took shots at Drake, Birdman’s signee, in his 2015 track “Color Money”. He also threw a jab at Birdman and Lil Wayne when the two of them settled their Cash Money beef in early 2016.
Ross’ Rather You Than Me drops March 17 with confirmed collabs featuring Nas and Ty Dolla Sign, so for now, fans will have to wait to hear if this “Idols” track has any subliminal or direct shots aimed at Cash Money’s head honcho.
