With permission from his team, the professional baseball pitcher is slated to bring his talent to the Cibao Giants of the Dominican League this winter, New York Daily News reports.
Familia is currently facing assault charges following an altercation with his wife, Bianca Rivas, in October. In the 911 call released by police, Rivas told the operator that Familia was “drunk” and “going crazy.” She was left with a bruise on her cheek and scratches on her chest by the end of the incident.
Rivas has since asked Fort Lee, N.J. prosecutors to drop charges against her husband, a request yet to be honored according to New York Daily News.

Like his teammate Jose Reyes, who was suspended for 52 games following an October 2015 arrest for which charges were later dismissed, Familia is still likely to face a hefty suspension under the Major League Baseball (MLB) and Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA)’s joint domestic violence policy in spite of how his case plays out in court.
