Kevin Ross Offers To “Pick You Up” In New Video

Kevin Ross, a graduate of Boston’s prestigious Berklee College of Music, is set to release his debut album, The Awakening (Motown) on March 24.

Following the album’s first single, “Long Song Away,” the Washington, D.C. native premieres the brand new music video for the stoic and doo-wop-inspired single, “Pick You Up.”

In the Scholastic Vision-directed visual, Ross sits alone in a studio staring into a broken mirror as he gives himself as well as his fellow brother a much needed pep talk to get through life’s hard-times.

“We were not made to live alone, but often times we feel like no one understands us,” the singer tells VIBE. “‘Pick You Up’ is a narrative based off of a certain time in my life where I felt alone. Like there was no way out of my circumstances. But it was like God gave me this song not only to encourage myself but to encourage others to stay strong and steadfast. We all are pieces of thread woven into the fabric of life. Which means we need each other in more ways than what we realize.”

Shortly after graduating from Berklee, the prolific songwriter moved to Atlanta where he worked with superstars Trey Songz, Jamie Foxx, Nicki Minaj and others. This type of output resulted in Ross inking a record deal with Motown Records and releasing his first EP, Dialogue in the Grey, in 2014.

Also, fans can find Ross on Ro James’ XIX tour, which began on March 2 at the Howard Theatre in Washington, D.C. Upcoming dates include shows at The Middle East in Cambridge, Mass. on March 5 and The Promontory in Chicago on March 9.

Fans can pre-order The Awakening right now. Watch the VIBE premiere of Kevin Ross’ “Pick You Up” video above.
