Knicks Consider Carmelo Anthony Trade To LA Clippers

Carmelo Anthony’s days in New York could be coming to a close. But that will ultimately be up to him and not Phil Jackson, as Melo would have to approve any deal the New York Knicks agree to. According to the New York Daily News, the team has engaged in talks that would send Anthony to join his good friend Chris Paul on the Los Angeles Clippers, but it gets worse Knicks fans. The rumored package New York would receive in return does not include any of the Clippers’ three best players.

For a deal to come together, the Clips would need to send out the equivalent of Anthony’s incoming $27 million salary. The package for the nine-time All-Star would be centered around Austin Rivers, Jamal Crawford and J.J. Redick. That does not sound too appetizing, so the Knicks would be smart to wait until the Feb. 23 deadline before pouncing on the underwhelming swap.

Remember when Anthony met with team President Jackson last week to reaffirm his desire not to be traded? Apparently Jackson wasn’t listening. Melo’s unwavering loyalty to New York is respectable, but at 32-years-old it may be time for Melo to contribute for a contending team.

The Knicks currently sit three games out of the playoff picture in the Eastern Conference with a record of 20-27. Anthony, who will be missing the All-Star game for the first time since 2009, is playing his best basketball of the season averaging 22 points per game to go along with six rebounds.

It’s going to be a very interesting February at Madison Square Garden. Gear up Knicks fans, this mess could get even uglier.
