Lil Wayne set the rap world ablaze when he recently announced his new allegiance to Jay Z and his Roc Nation label. Would Weezy’s new alliance mean plenty of new music from he and Hov? Would Hov free Weezy from the contractual grasp of Birdman? Would we be getting Tha Carter V sooner than we thought?

In a recent guest appearance on his good friend Skip Bayless’ Undisputed TV series, Skip asks Weezy two questions about the situation. The first question Skip asks is if Weezy has indeed signed with Hov’s label.

“Jay is just a good guy man,” Weezy explains during his sit-down with the fiery sports media personality. “It was nothing but a simple thing, just friend-to-friend, ‘I just want to help you.’ That’s all it was. ‘I just want to help you man. In any way I can.’ And right now he’s just going to help me in any way he can, and that’s just what it is.”

Skip next asks Wayne if Jay would help him secure his freedom from Cash Money Records. Weezy’s answer: Jay’s a nice guy, and he’ll try his best, but not yet.

“No, we haven’t done that yet. We still working on that, that’s a situation. But like I said, Jay’s just a good guy, he just wants to help me. So he’s just going to be helping me,” Weezy says.

In an interesting bit, Weezy and Skip discuss former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez, who was recently found dead in his prison cell. His death’s been ruled a suicide.

Weezy says he’d heard Hernandez smoked K2—which is a form of synthetic marijuana—the night before he was found dead in his cell. Weezy goes on to say people warned him against smoking K2 upon his release from jail seven years ago, and that if Hernandez did, indeed, smoke K2, that might have played a role in his death.

You can check out Skip and Weezy’s conversation below. The bit about Jay Z comes in at the 13:35 mark.
