Frustration aside, Lupe Fiasco is ready to put out a new album titled Drogas Light, and he has a release date.
Earlier today (Dec. 24), Lu took to Twitter to reveal the artwork and date the album will be touching down. You can mark your calendars for Feb. 10.
The confirmation by the Chicago rapper goes along with reports that were going around the Internet that he would be dropping a project on that date. Earlier this week, a Reddit user, who was on hand at Lupe’s show in Cleveland, Ohio, claimed the rapper revealed plans to drop a different version of his previously announced DROGAS album on Feb. 10, 2017. “He said he could never fully give himself to an album while with Atlantic, so the real DROGAS will be released after a ‘lite’ version with Atlantic,” the user wrote.
That “lite” version is on deck.
This is good news for fans of the Windy City MC, who just two weeks ago was threatening to scrap his album and hang up his mic. “I get the hint God,” he wrote on Twitter. “Yo Lupe fans it’s been fun and I hope you’ve had fun. I’m officially not releasing anymore music. Albums cancelled.”
A major factor in Fiasco’s retirement talk frustration seemed to have to do with accusations that he used anti-Semitic lyrics on his new song “N.E.R.D,” which led to a Twitter back-and-forth with Jonathan Greenblatt, the CEO of the Anti-Defamation League.
Now it appears Lupe is out of his feelings and back in the booth.
