Man Explains Police Standoff In Wedding Proposal Video
Over the weekend, the wedding proposal of Alabama native Daiwon McPherson to his girlfriend Shawna Blackmon caught the attention of many when a portion of the event featured a standoff with police. After viewers had believed his approach was an insensitive view on police brutality, McPherson provided an offputting explanation for his actions.

An avid member of the bike community in Mobile, McPherson teamed up with the police to stage a fake standoff with his girlfriend unaware of what was going on. With the help of his biker friends, McPherson canceled dinner plans with his girlfriend of five years to attend a bike event. With the aid of his buddies, Blackmon was informed that McPherson engaged in illegal bike activity and sped away from the police with a loaded gun. After meeting McPherson at the gas station, Blackman was met with police officers armed with Tasers. As she attempted to calm down the “situation,” McPherson pulled out a ring.
McPherson says the plan was in route for a long time and made sure everyone was in on it, minus Blackmon. “She knows my every move- I can never surprise her,” he told AL.com Sunday (Dec. 11). “She always told me when I proposed to make sure she looked nice. She just got her hair done… her nails done,” McPherson said. “Nobody will be expecting this tonight!” Overall, McPherson said the stunt was to strengthen the relationship between the biker community and the police. “I really wanted to bring the bike life and the police together,” he said. “I can’t believe I actually pulled this off.”
While planning the stunt might have done the job, the intersection it plays between himself and Blackmon is a headscratcher. Nonetheless, Blackmon was happy with the entire situation. “I appreciate the way he did it,” she said. “Here we are, ending the year engaged!”
He also provided a video on Facebook, by way of Blackmon’s account, to share “behind the scenes” moments. The video includes his meeting with Mobile police, irritating his fiancé with annoying banter, set over the J.Cole’s “Folding Clothes” from his latest album, 4 Your Eyez Only.
McPherson isn’t the first person to abuse police powers for attention. A man from Romania staged a fake police robbery before proposing to his girlfriend in August. After the woman was thrown on the floor by a masked man, she was then pulled from the ground and led to the back of her car where her boyfriend stayed on one knee with guns drawn at his face.
